Sometimes, luck can turn the tide, and a missed review can grant an unexpected lifeline. Such was the case during the first Test between India and Australia where debutant Nitish Kumar Reddy survived a crucial mom🦩ent when Australian skipper Pat Cummins chose not to review a contentious decision.

‌Mitchell Starc and Josh Hazlewood had India reeling, reducing them to 47/4 in 23 overs. The Indian top order faltered, with Yashasvi Jaiswal, Devdutt Padikkal, Virat Kohli, and Dhruv Jurel failing to contribute significantly. KL Rahul provided a brief glimmer of hope with his 26 off 74, but he fell to a controversial decision. By the time Washington Sundar was dismissed for just four off 15 balls, India was struggling at 59/6. However, Nitish Kumar Reddy had fortune on his side when Cummins opted against taking a DRS call, allowing him to stay at the crease.

 

On the final ball of th𒀰e 37th over, Starc delivered a sharp, short ball aimed at Reddy’s body. Attempting to evade it, Reddy tried to guide the ball over the keeper but instead gloved it to Alex Carey. The Australians appealed passionately, with Carey convinced there was glove contact. After deliberating, Cummins chose not to review, and Starc concluded his over. Replays later confirmed the ball had indeed kissed Reddy’s glove, leaving the Aussies visibly frustrated. Twitter erupted, highlighting Nitish’s lucky escape and questioning Cummins’ missed opportunity on the debutant's crucial lifeline.
