Reports | BCCI finally becoming a stable board, general body elections on October 22
The BCCI may finally be heading towards getting a stable board, as 26 state associations have complied fully with the new Supreme Court-approved constitution, and are ready to hold their elections. The CoA conŕ˛firmed that four more states are in the process of setting up their elections.
For well over two years, the BCCI has not had a general body, citing administrative confusion and disharmony in the functioning of theđ board. The Supreme Court-appointed Committee of Administrators have sought to resolve the compliance issues regarding the new BCCI constitution. And finally, it seems that the plan is coming to fruition.Â
âThe 26 state associations have appointed electoral officers. So we are lookinđŚŠg at 30 fully compliant bodies. The other four state units havenât appointed their electoral officers yet.đ We will be going to consult with the amicus. 26 states can have their elections,â Vinod Rai, chairman of CoA, told TNN, reported TOI.
However, there are stillྲ a few associations who are contesting parts of the constitution. The specific clause deals with the cooling-off period of three years. Current office-bearers would be rendered disqualified by that clause, having held their respective positions for six years or more.
âObviously those who will be compliant wilđ l only be allowed to vote in BCCI elections. I think they (state association) have filed Interim Applications (IA) conteđsting 19 (1) (c),â Rai said.
The CoA has set October 22 as the date toęŚ hold the BCCI elections to appoint the general body. Once the state elections are held, the BCCIâs chief electoral officer is expected to ask each association to submit the name of the representatives for the Annual General Meeting and the elections.
