Abu Dhabi T10 | Cricketers should play as many matches as possible irrespective of format, opines Lasith Malinga
Sri Lanka T20I captain Lasith Malinga feels a cricketer should play as many matches as possible in their career as the span could be very less. The seasoned paceman is representing Maratha Arabians in the Abu Dhabi T10 league and sports an impressive and unparalleled economy rateđ of 7.â75.
At 37, the Lanka pacer is still in a good form and feels that he has years ahead of him. Reê§cently Malinga revealed that he has plans to feature in the WT20 next year and carry on playing even beyondđŻ that. Heâs of the opinion that it shouldnât matter to a cricketer if itâs an international game or T20 leagues or even T10. The idea, according to him, is to play as many matches as possible.Â
âA cricketerâs career is very short. Someoneâs career is one year, someoneâs career is 15 years. You never know. Someone has a big injury, his career is finished. This is a professional joke. I feel a cricketer hđ °as to play the maximum matđŒches during his period â doesnât matter itâs [international cricket], doesnât matter [itâs] franchise cricket, he has to look after his body,â stated Malinga, as quoted by Sportstar.
There goes a lot of hard work into maintaining the body along the process but itâs all up đ„to the cricketer, acâcording to Malinga.Â
âAt the end of the day, a player is going to be forgotten by world cricket, but what he has done or what he has achieved, is still there.†If you want to achieve something, you have to play. The body is maintained by you, yes. You have to do all the hard work to maintain your body, but I feel if you can play any other cricket â doesnât matter itâs Test cricket, doesnât matter itâs ODI or T20 or T10, whatever it is, you are the cricketer, you have to play maximum cricket,â he added.
