Scotland to host New Zealand for one-off ODI in June 2020
For the first time since 1đŠč999, associates Scotland will host World Cup finalists New Zealand in a one-off ODI in June next year. While Scotland narrowly missed out on Worldàč Cup qualification through D/L method, the Kiwis, on the other hand, were undone in the final by a bizarre Super Over rule.
Associate cricket side Scotland will have a golden opportunity next âyear to further expand their ever-so-growiđng reputation as they are set to host two-time finalists New Zealand in a one-off ODI in June 2020. The last time the British side hosted the Kiwis on their home soil was 20 years back in 1999, where the tourists comprehensively beat the hosts by six wickets under 20 overs.Â
Things, however, have changed now and Scotland have made a name for themselves as the "giant killers", with their sensational upset over World Champions England last year serving as a testament to their abilities. With the likes of George Munsey, Kyle Coeđtzer and Richie Berrington in their ranks, the Scottish side would definitely be looking to score an upset over the Kiwis.Â
"We lookđŒ forward to welcoming New Zealand's men to Scotlandđ± for the first time since 2008," Cricket Scotland's high performance manager Simon Smith was quoted as saying by the International Cricket Council (ICC).
"There is a close bond between our nations, and the clash in Dunedin during the 2015 World Cup was a special occasion marked fâittingly by a closely-fought contest plđayed in typically good spirit.Â
"Having conquered the world number one team in 2018, this will be an excellent opportunity for our men to knock over the finalist from the last two World Cups and earà¶Łn yet another win over an ICC full member," he added.
đThe tie will be hosted in Scotland on June 26, 2020, although the venue is yet to be decđided.
