SL vs IND | Twitter erupts as furious Mendis hurls helmet after technical flub saves Kohli’s
The evolving modern-day cricket is dependent on various technological aspects during live match proceedings. But the gadgets are not always hundred cent correct as a decision on Virat Kohli's Not Out sparked debate in the third ODI between Sri Lanka and India leaving Kusal Mendis furious.
Winning the toss and electing to bat first, Sri Lank💟a suffered numerous setbacks amidst a 74-run second-wicket stand. However, a brilliant seventh-wicket partnership between Kamindu Mendis and Dunith Wellalage steered the Sri Lankan unit to 240/8 in 50 overs. During the second innings, Rohit Sharma helped India get off to a flying start before the Lankan spinners pegged back at them. With the conditions suiting the finger spinners, even Virat Kohli struggled to get going but fortune favoured him with a DRS botch sparking further debates.
On the last delivery of the 15th over, Dhananjaya de Silva bowled a fuller delivery pitched on the off stump from over the wicket. The ball tu🍬rned into the right-hander with Kohli getting beaten on the inside edge on an intended whip. After a brief discussion with partner Shubman Gill, he opted for the review as umpire Raveendra Wimalasiri signaled him out. However, the TV umpire Joel Wilson found a slight spark in the Ultraedge graph despite a thin gap between the willow and the white rock. Henceforth, he sent the message to overturn the original decision, thus ruling Kohli Not Out.
The decision didn’t quite go well with t🍷he hosts as wicketkeeper-batter Kusal Mendis hurled his helmet away amidst a displeased Lankan community. Captain Charith Asalanka was seen arguing with the onfield umpire while coach Sanajth Jayasuriya ran downstairs to have a chat with the reserve umpire. Even Kohli was seen in smiles after ꦆthe TV umpire’s decision, promoting the Twitterverse into a frenzy.
