Reports | Asian Games 2022 could be postponed due to rise in Covid-19 cases in China
As per a new report, the upcoming Asian Games 2022 ź§could be postponed due to the fresh outbreak of Covid-19 in China. Even though there has been no official announcement made on the same,ź§ as per a top source, the tournament which is scheduled to take place in September, will be delayed.
The Asian Games in 2022 may be postą¹poned due to China's worsening Covid āissue. A top source told AFP on Thursday that the mega-event has the "possibility" of being postponed, addressing rumours that it will be pushed to next year.
"No official decision has been taken by the committee uź¦¦ntil now, but there is a possibility that it will be postponed," said Kuwait's Husain Al-Musallam, director-general of the Olympic Council of Asia, the Games regulating body.
The 2022 Asian Gamź¦æes will be held in Hangzhou in September. Shanghai, which is only about 200 kilometers from the venue, is dealing with the country's lź¦”argest coronavirus breakout in two years. The Games are now planned to take place in Hangzhou from September 10 to September 25. According to organizers, all of the Asian Games venues have been completed.
