The toss favoured the home side, Sydney Sixers during the initial game of the Boxing Day event in the Big Bash League. After Moises Henriques sent the visitors to bat, Ben Duckett got off to a flying start despite losing out on opening partner inside the mꦕandatory powerplay. Following three overs ofꦿ decent play, the southpaw took on the ICC no. 1 ranked T20 bowler and smashed six consecutive fours in the last over of the mandatory field restrictions
Duckett banged a couple of fours over mid-wicket by rocking back off a short-pitch delivery in the first three balls of the fourth over. Subsequently, he hanged back and cut a widish good length delivery towards backward point for a four. On the fifth ball, Duckett switched to reverse sweep attempt and middled the fuller delivery nicely to propel the ball towards the ꩲdeep point region ropes. Having hit five back-to-back fours, the southpaw judged a slower one nicely off Akeal’s hands and lofted it towards the V region to make it six successive boundaries in the over. He went on to notch a 22-ball half-century, his first for the Stars.
