Ruturaj Gaikwad named new Maharashtra skipper for upcoming Ranji Trophy season

Maharashtra Cricket Association took to its official Twitter handle and announced a 25-member squad for the Ranji Trophy season beginning in October. This will be a fresh start for the Maharashtra team, as many senior players, including Kedhar Jadhav, hung boots, and the two-time winner will look forward to a transitional change under Gaikwad’s captaincy.
Under Ankit Bawne's leadership, the Maharashtra team had a challenging 2023-24 season, managing to win only one out of their seven matches. The team finished seventh in Elite Group♍ A, with a record of three losses and three draws.
The CSK captain's appoin🐓tment comes amid his non-selection for th🍰e upcoming T20I and ODI series against Sri Lanka, starting on July 27th. Last season, Gaikwad was sidelined due to injury during the group stage, limiting his participation to just one match.
For the new season, Maharashtra has been placed in Elite Group A, which includes teams like Meghalaya, Tripura, Baroda, Odisha, Mumbai, Jammu and Kashmir, and Services. In the opening match of the Ranji Trophy 2024-25 season, Maharashtra will square off against Jammu & Kash🤪mir at the Sher-e-Kashmir Stadium in Srinagar.
